Isaiah 40:31 in Hebrew
וְקֹויֵ֤ יְהוָה֙ יַחֲלִ֣יפוּ כֹ֔חַ יַעֲל֥וּ אֵ֖בֶר כַּנְּשָׁרִ֑ים יָר֙וּצוּ֙ וְלֹ֣א יִיגָ֔עוּ יֵלְכ֖וּ וְלֹ֥א יִיעָֽפוּ
Weqowye Yahweh yahalifu koach ya’alu ewer kanesarim yarutsu
welo yigahu yeleku welo yiafu
Root word of ְקוֹיֵ֤ weqovye
Hebrew words are formed from roots consisting of 3 or 4 Hebrew letters by changing vowels and by adding a wealth of prefixes and suffixes to that root.
The word weqovye וְקוֹיֵ֤ uses the prefix vav with the verb qavah קָוָה
The vav prefix is used as a conjunctive.
Isaiah 40:31 conjoins the expectation of those who wait on the Lord to the youths and young men.
“Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted but those who wait upon the Lord, will renew their strength”.
Pictographs of the root word qavah קָוָה
- The verb qavah portrays deliberate, tension-filled waiting that binds the heart to the expected intervention of Yahweh.
- קָ – qof, pictograph of a monkey.
- וָ vav, pictograph of a nail.
- ה heh, pictograph of a person standing with his arms raised.
Interpretation of pictographs
- Monkeys exhibit imitation behaviour, which is a key aspect of social learning and understanding. This behaviour is often described as "monkey see, monkey do."
- The vav represents Christ’s ultimate sacrifice for the sin of world. He was nailed to the cross.
- The heh speaks of worshipping God.
- Matthew 16:24: “Then Jesus told his disciples, ‘If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me’”.
- 1 Corinthians 1:11: “Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ”.
Numerical Value
- קָ 100
- וָ 6
- ה 5
- Number 100 - fulfilment of God’s promises, for instance Abraham fathered Isaac at the age of 100.
- Number 6 - the number of man.
- Number 5 – grace, revelation.
- “I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.” – John 15:15.
Hope and Trust
- Trust is the choice to believe that God will execute His promises. It is an active decision to rely on God’s character.
- Hope is a confident expectation that is rooted in the promises of God which often involves a time lapse between the promise and the fulfilment. This lapse of time is kavah — waiting on the Lord
