Commandments are not a list of do’s and don'ts but teachings which according to Proverbs 3:1, prolong life.

Precepts are the legal rules upon which judgement rests.



Statutes are written law. The Bible speaks of at least 4 perpetual statutes.

מ — pictograph of water, representing people;

צ — pictograph of a fishing hook, speaking of being drawn;

ו — pictograph of a nail, fastening two objects to each other;

ה — pictograph of man with his hand raised to heaven.

God draws צ manמ  to Himself ו by revealing ה Himself (through His commandments).



Mitsvah is derived from the root word tsavah  צָוָה.

Precepts are the rules or principles upon which judgement is decided:

Romans 3:23 — All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God;

Romans 6:23 — The wages of sin is death;

Hebrews 9:22 — Without the shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness for sin;

1 John 1:9 — If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

The Bible speaks of at least 4 perpetual statutes:

The Passover, Exodus 12:14;

The Priesthood, Exodus 29:9;

The Food offerings, Leviticus 24:8-9;

The Feasts of Israel, Leviticus 23.

According to the mainstream view Jesus fulfilled the first 4 feasts with His first coming and will fulfil the last 3 at His second coming. 

• Passover: Jesus died as the ultimate sacrificial lamb, freeing believers from sin.
• Unleavened Bread : Jesus lived a sinless life, and His buried body is represented by the unbroken, unleavened bread.
• Firstfruits: Jesus rose from the dead, acting as the firstfruits of those who will be resurrected.
• Pentecost / Feast of Weeks: The Holy Spirit was poured out to establish the New Testament church.

In addition to the first four feasts, the alternative view is that Jesus fulfilled all the Feasts with His first coming:

Feast of trumpets: – Jesus’ first words: “Repent for the Kingdom of God is at hand”, Matthew 4:17.

Day of atonement: – Crucifixion.



Feast of tabernacles: – “The word became flesh and tabernacled among us”, John 1:14.

• Jesus fulfilled the Law/commandments and the Prophets, Matthew 5:17.
• The church is build on the this principle/ precept:

“And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the

 gates of hell shall not prevail against it”, Matthew 16:18.

• Jesus fulfilled the statutes:
•     He is the Passover lamb, John 1:29;
•     He is the High Priest after the order of Melchisedek, Hebrews 7:17;
•     Jesus is the Bread of life, John 6:35;
•     Jesus fulfilled all the Feasts.

Numerically, the giving of the Law, the Ten commandments, on Sinai was a prophetic glimpse into the future.

According to the Gospel of Matthew there were 42 generations from Abraham to David, 42 generations from David to Babylon and 42 generations from David to the birth of Christ. 

The pivotal observation that can be made, is captured in John 5:39.

All the commandments, the precepts and the statutes portray Jesus.



“You search the Scriptures; because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness of Me”.

And this is the testimony that is proclaimed throughout the world.
