The Lord sets the prisoners free; the Lord opens the eyes of the blind. The Lord lifts up those who are bowed down; the Lord loves the righteous.






Deuteronomy 31:6 in Hebrew


The word kefofim, bow down, in pictographs

כְּ kaf    - a picture of a hand, kaf with a dagesh.

פ pey   - a picture of a mouth, pey without a dagesh.

וּ vav   - a picture of a nail.

Hebrew words for "bow down"

  • Kefaf ּ כְּפַף  — root word for kefofim.
  • Shakah שחה — the most common word for worship, directly translating to "bowing down" or "prostrating" oneself in total surrender.
  • Avodah עֲבוֹדָה— A dual-purpose word that translates to both "work" and "worship," implying that our daily labour is an act of service to God.
  • Barak בָּרַךְ —Means to kneel or bend the knee in reverence and humble submission.

The dagesh

In Biblical Hebrew the dagesh is a diacritical mark that looks like a full stop.

Six consonants change their pronunciation if a dagesh is added.

Traditionally these letters are called the begadkephat letters.


Bet    ב pronounced as “v” in “vet” — בּ pronounced “b” as in “bed”;

Gimel ג Soft glutteral sound — גּ pronounced as “gh” in “girl”;

Dalet ד pronounced as “th” as in “this” — דּ pronounced “d” as in dog;

Kaf    כ pronounced as “ch” as in “loch”— כּ pronounced “k” as in kite ; 

Pe     פ pronounced as “f” in fence — פּ pronounced “p” as in pet;

Tav   ת pronounced as “th” in think — תּ pronounced “t” as in tick.




Dagesh in kefofim and barak

The word kefofim is spelt with 2 of the begadkephat letters.


The first letter, kaf כּ,with a dagesh is pronounced “k” as in kite;


The pey פ is pronounced “f” without the dagesh;


The word barak is spelt beyt-resh-kaf. The beyt בּ in this word takes a dagesh and is pronounced “b”.



Gender: Adjectives

Adjectives take the form of the noun in Hebrew.

Nouns can be masculine, feminine or neutral.

The word kafuf, the root word for kefofim, means bent, bowed,

curved, hunched and subject to.

The adjective refers to here take the form of “those”, a masculine plural noun

כָּפוּף (kafuf) —masculine singular,

כְּפוּפִים (kefufim) — masculine plural,

כְּפוּפָה (kefufah) — feminine singular,

כְּפוּפוֹת (kefufot) — feminine plural.


Jesus

Who should be worship?

And Jesus answered him, “It is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only shall you serve,’” Luke 4:8.


How should God be worship?

God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth,

 John 4:24.


Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me, John 14:6.

In terms of Psalm 146:8 then, God loves those Who bow down to Jesus and worship Him Who is the truth.



Numerical value of word kefaf כָּפַף   

   180

The root word in Hebrew for kefofim ְּפוּפִים is kafaf,כָּפַף


This word has a numerical value of 180, 20 + 80 + 80.


Strong’s H#180 is the word, river ubal  אוּבָל


The words “worship” and “river” are related both numerically and textually:



Revelation 22:1-3: “Then the angel showed me the river of life, bright as crystal flowing from the throne of God and the Lamb…No longer will there be anything accursed, but the throne of God and the Lamb will be in it, and His  servants will worship Him. 




Conclusion

Psalm 146:8, “He sets the prisoners free; He opens the eyes of the blind”, was fulfilled in the New Testament:


This is what Jesus said:

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because He has anointed Me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent Me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed,


Luke 4:18.

Worship belongs to Him.

And when he saw Jesus from afar, he ran and fell down before him, Mark 5:6.



Prayer

May the Lord give you a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which He has called you.
