Hebrew Mysteries

 Introduction

The Aim of the Posts

Marlene Bredenkamp • 9 February 2026

Hidden in the alphabet letters, the numerical values of the letters, the spacing between the letters, called ELS, and the pictographs, are treasures that only the original language of the old testament can explain. Through examining different texts, these treasures will be revealed, one text at a time.

This post is an introduction to:

  • The Hebrew consonants and vowels.
  • Hebrew pictographs.
  • The numerical value of the Hebrew letters.
  • ELS

The significance of the numerical values of the letters often lies in how texts, which carry the same values, correlate to each other.  Also important are the intervals between the letters which hide a deeper meaning. The intervals are called ELS, Equidistant Letter Sequencing.

About Hebrew

  • Hebrew is a semitic language that reads from right to left.
  • There are 22 consonants in the Hebrew alphabet. The Masoretic text looks like this:
  • אבגדהוזחטיכלמנסעפצקרשׁת
  • There are no vowels in the alphabet. These are indicated by the diacritical marks, slide 9.
  • There are no numbers in Hebrew. Numbers are indicated by the letters.
  • The two methods studied in these presentations are the ordinal method and the standard method.
  • The ordinal method is the value indicated by the position of the letter in the alphabet.
  • The standard method is the value allocated to the letter. The first 10 letters have the same value as the ordinal method and thereafter increase incrementally (See slide 13).
  • Ancient Hebrew, Paleo Hebrew, was written with pictographs and not alphabet letters. Each letter therefore also represents a picture. For Example: The Aleph א in the word aleph אָלֶף is a picture of an ox depicting the strong leader.

Four Levels of Interpretation in Hebrew

  • The Parshat level, פשת, is the literal meaning of the text;
  • The Remez רמץ level incorporates the numerical values of the letters and investigates the allegories beyond the literal text;
  • The Derash דרש level compares different texts;
  • The Sod סוד level is the mystical level.

The Hebrew Consonants

  • אבגדהוזחטיכלמנסעפצקרשׁת
  • When used at the end of a word, 5 consonants change its form. These five consonants, when used at end of word have a different form and are called the sofit letters. Below are the letters marked in bold.
  • ץ פף נן מם כך

The Hebrew Vowels

Vowels are the diacritic marks below the consonant.

  • אָ – Qamats: “a” as in “father” in English
  • אֻ – Qibbuts: “u” as in “rude” in English
  • אַ – Patach short a as in “cut” in English
  • אֶ – Segol "eh” as in “egg” in English
  • אֱ – Chataf segol “eh” as in “let” in English
  • או – o as in “aura” in English
  • אִי– Hiriq: “i” as in “machine” in English

Reading the First Word

  • אָדָ֜ם Adam
  • א — aleph is silent, and with the vowel ˕ pronounced “ah”
  • ד — Dalet is pronounced “d” like in donkey with ˕ is “da”
  • ם — Mem is pronounced “m” like in “man”

Hebrew Pictographs of Adam

א

The strong leader

ד

The doorway

ם

(to) Man

The first picture is the Masoretic text which is what will be studied. The picture next to the Masoretic text, is from the Paleo-Hebrew alphabet, the early script used to write Hebrew.

Numerical Values

Numerical Values of Adam

  • אָדָ֜ם Adam
  • א Aleph — 1
  • ד Dalet  — 4
  • ם Mem  — 13 ordinal value and standard value is 40
  •  Numerical value of Adam = 18 or 45

The questions of Proverbs 30:4 illustrate the significance of ELS.

  • Who has ascended to heaven and come down?
  • Who has gathered the wind in his fists?
  • Who has wrapped up the waters in a garment?
  • Who has established all the ends of the earth?
  • What is his name, and what is his son’s name? Surely you know!

Proverbs 30:4 in Hebrew

The questions of Proverbs 30:4 illustrate the significance of ELS.

The answer to the questions in proverbs is found by using “ELS”

The verse, at intervals of 21 letters, starting with the yod י in first row marked in blue, in previous slide, reading from right to left, is shown below.

The answer to the questions in Proverbs 30:4 “What is His name and what is His son’s name,” is ישוע Yeshua, Jesus.

Numerical Values of Yeshua

  • The letter yud י =10
  • The letter shin ש = 300
  • Letter vav ו = 6
  • Letter ayin ע = 70
  • The sum of 10 + 300 +6 + 70 = 386.
  • The Strong’s Greek #386 is the word ἀνάστασις anastasis which means resurrection — Jesus is the resurrection and the life.

Pictographs of Yeshua

  • “Yud”  is a picture of a “hand”
  •  “Shin” is a picture of teeth which crash —“destroy evil”
  • “Vav”  is a picture of a “nail” which fastens / join one object to another
  • “Ayin” is a picture of an “eye” representing fleshly desires

  • Together: The arm that destroyed evil, caused by the eye, fleshly desire, fastened (to the cross).

Concluding Remark

The Hebrew language with its richness adds meaning to words and texts that  cannot be seen in other languages as was shown in the name of YESHUA.

Through a series of presentations the hidden mysteries will be revealed one text at a time.
